The Tridge and the river parks

The Tridge and the river parks in Midland.
The Tridge and the river parks in Midland.

Start where the rivers meet. The Tridge stands at the confluence of the Tittabawassee and the Chippewa, a wooden footbridge with three legs, opened in 1981. One leg reaches toward downtown. The others reach the parks. You can understand the visit by crossing it once.

Chippewassee Park is the green around that junction. The rail trail toward the west begins in this same area, and it will take the rest of the day if you let it. Do not. The assignment is the confluence and then downtown, not a county-length ride.

Downtown is the second half, close enough to walk. Early October is a good time: the rivers are the attraction, the leaves are turning, and you are not depending on a plant tour. There is no need to go onto the company campus to see Midland. The public city is the bridge, the parks, and the street.

Loop back across a different leg of the Tridge so you have been on the water from more than one side. Then stop. Two rivers and a short downtown are enough.
