About The Mitten Daily
The Mitten Daily is a Michigan paper about where to go, and the towns you will find when you get there. We cover the trip and the place it lands in: a harbor morning, a main street after the season, a market, a river walk, a neighborhood once the crowd has gone.
The state is the beat. Detroit and Grand Rapids sit next to Port Huron, Bay City, and a township that never makes a national list. The Upper Peninsula is covered as its own place. Up North, for this paper, is the Lower Peninsula north of Bay City. A reader should be able to open a town and find both a reason to visit and a reason the people who live there stay.
What we publish
News is what is happening in Michigan cities and communities. Michigan Travel is places to see and things to do. Community is the list of those places, and every story is filed under one of them. Home is the day’s edition.
We write for someone planning a Saturday and for someone who already lives on the block. Hours, streets, and the public life of a town matter more than a slogan. This is not a state tourism campaign. It is a paper.
The name
The mitten is the shape Michiganders already use for the Lower Peninsula. The Daily is the promise: a paper you can open in the morning, not a brochure you throw out in the fall.
